Behind the music of "Fingerprints"

Every song has a beginning most people never get to see. For "Fingerprints," mine started at the keyboard, no lyrics, no title, and no idea it would become one of my most personal releases to date. Just a melody and a pencil.

I remember sitting down and playing something that felt right. That feeling that a musician knows when a phrase lands and your whole body tells you don't lose that. So I didn't. I started writing down every note, methodically, the way my classical training taught me to.

That's one of the things I want to talk about honestly: music theory isn't just an academic exercise. It's a tool. When you understand intervals, chord relationships, and scale degrees, you're not waiting on inspiration to hand you a finished idea, you're equipped to catch it the moment it surfaces. You can identify what you're hearing in real time, name it, write it down, and build on it before it slips away.

That's exactly what happened with "Fingerprints." The words came first. The emotion followed. And the melody came last because once I knew what I was saying, I knew what the music  needed to say.

What you'll see in tonight's video is that early moment. Me at the keys, working through the composition, writing it out note by note. No studio polish. No finished product. Just the beginning.

I think it's important to share this part of the process because a lot of aspiring musicians think songwriting is either pure lightning-bolt inspiration or some mysterious gift. It's neither. It's craft. It's showing up, knowing your instrument, and trusting that the tools you've built — theory, ear training, practice — will meet you when the melody arrives.

"Fingerprints" is out now everywhere. But tonight, I wanted you to see where it really started. 🌹🎹
