One Week of Fingerprints: A Reflection

One week ago today, Fingerprints found you. And you left yours on it too.
I’ve been sitting with that for a few days now — the quiet miracle of releasing something deeply personal into the world and watching it land. Every stream, every comment, every share felt like a fingerprint of its own. Proof that someone was there. Proof that the music connected.
What I Didn’t Expect
I won’t pretend I knew how release week would go. No independent artist really does. You prepare for months — the metadata, the distribution, the registrations, the graphics, the campaign — and then you press go and hold your breath.
What I didn’t expect was how much the community would show up. Not just the numbers — though those mattered — but the quality of the response. People tagging their friends. People sending me messages about which line hit them and why. People who hadn’t heard my music before finding it through someone who cared enough to share it.
That’s the thing about vulnerability in music. When you write something true, people recognize it. And they pass it on.
Three Things Releasing Music Independently Taught Me This Week
1. Done is better than perfect.
There is no perfect release. There is no perfect moment, perfect campaign, or perfect mix. There is only the song and the decision to let it exist in the world. I made that decision and I’m so glad I did.
2. Your community shows up when you’re vulnerable.
Fingerprints is a personal song. It’s about soul ties; about the people who leave their mark on you long after the relationship or situationship has ended. I was nervous to put that out. But the response has reminded me that the most personal things are often the most universal.
3. Collaboration amplifies everything.
Having Brenneaux on this song wasn’t just a creative choice; it was a career strategy. Two voices, two audiences, two sets of people who care. Collaboration doesn’t split your spotlight. It expands it.
Thank You!
To everyone who streamed "Fingerprints" this week, thank you. To everyone who shared it, commented on it, or sent it to someone who needed to hear it, thank you. To Brenneaux, for bringing something to this song that I couldn’t have imagined alone, thank you.
We’re one week in. And this is just the beginning.
Still streaming it? Drop your favorite line in the comments. I read every one.
